Goa Film Festival
Goa is pretty much known for its beaches, nightlife, vibrant lifestyle & unique culture, is also a venue for one of the most popular event hosted in the country - The International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The event is aimed at promoting films from around the world in an effort to understand & appreciate the diverse film cultures from different nations and further honour the film makers & artists for their excellence in the field. The genre of films include feature films, short films, documentaries as well as animated ones. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Directorate of Film Festivals and the Government of Goa jointly organize the event, which is hosted once every year.
The First edition of IFFI was actually started in Mumbai by the Films Division, Government of India in the year 1952. It also became the first ever International Film Festival held in Asia. Later on the festival made its way across the cities of Madras, Delhi, Calcutta and Trivandrum and ever since IFFI became competitive in 1965, it was moved over to Trivandrum. Finally in 2004 IFFI found its home in the state of Goa and since then it has become a permanent fixture and is held every year in Goa and is commonly referred to as Goa Film Festival.
